Russia Invites Indonesia to Join BRICS Industrial Competence Center
Russia's Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade highlighted Indonesia's potential to join the BCIC during the 13th Joint Commission for Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation held in Jakarta
Indonesia, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Russia has invited Indonesia, now an official member of BRICS, to join the BRICS Industrial Competence Center (BCIC), which was inaugurated on April 9, 2025.
BRICS, which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is a coalition of major emerging economies that aims to foster cooperation in trade, investment, and sustainable development.
Indonesia officially became a member of BRICS on January 6, 2025, making it the first Southeast Asian nation to join the bloc.
Launch of BCIC with UNIDO Support
The BCIC initiative is supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), which is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller attended the launch event.

Russia Optimistic About Indonesia's Involvement
"We have initiated the launch of the BRICS Industrial Competence Center with the backing of UNIDO, and we are optimistic that Indonesia can become a member," Gruzdev said, as quoted by rri.co.id.​
Gruzdev explained that the BCIC's primary objective is to disseminate and share top-tier technology among BRICS member nations to foster collective benefits.
He emphasized that the initiative offers Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) access to a unified market and solutions for training, skills development, and technology transfer.
Purpose and Vision of BCIC
According to UNIDO's website, BCIC serves as an integrated network center for manufacturing entities within BRICS Plus countries, aiming to transition them to the 'Factory of the Future.'
The center also promotes international outreach, sustainable practices, and acts as a BRICS-oriented technology marketplace for SMEs.
Its vision includes providing scalable solutions for market access and international business growth across BRICS and partner nations.
UNIDO Support for Integration
UNIDO announced its readiness to assist BRICS Plus countries in merging their existing national centers into BCIC's network to maximize impact on sustainable economic and industrial growth.
The focus includes developing skills for Industry 4.0 and fostering innovation ecosystems throughout BRICS. (PW)
