Iran, PUREWILAYAH.COM - Iran has successfully produced the radioisotope Rhenium-188, a major advancement in the country’s nuclear medicine capabilities. The announcement was made by Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), during a visit to the AEOI Research Hospital, where President Masoud Pezeshkian was present.
Rhenium-188 is a critical isotope used in targeted radiation therapy, particularly for liver cancer, bone metastases, and other malignancies. Its local production eliminates the need for imports, ensuring greater accessibility for Iranian patients and reducing treatment costs.
Eslami highlighted Iran’s commitment to peaceful nuclear technology, stating that this achievement reflects years of research and investment in medical applications. President Pezeshkian praised Iranian scientists for their dedication, emphasizing the government’s support for expanding nuclear medicine to improve national healthcare.
