Amid the ongoing aggression on Gaza, Turkey has taken a major step by restricting the export of certain products to 'Israel,' citing the country's violation of international law and failure to respond to calls for a cease-fire and humanitarian aid.
The Turkish Trade Ministry made the announcement in a statement, stating that the restrictions will continue until 'Israel' implements a cease-fire and allows uninterrupted flow of aid to Gaza.
The move by Turkey is in line with various international agreements and resolutions, including those passed by the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and Human Rights Council.
These agreements collectively obligated 'Israel' to reach a cease-fire in accordance with the 1948 Genocide Convention, as mentioned in South Africa's case against the country.
The Turkish ministry emphasized the importance of 'Israel' cooperating with the UN and ensuring uninterrupted provision of essential humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza.
The restricted product groups, listed in an annex, include aluminum and steel products, paint, electric cables, construction materials, and fuel, among others.
The decision will remain in effect until 'Israel' fulfills its obligations under international law by declaring an immediate cease-fire and allowing sufficient humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
In response to Turkey's restrictions, the 'Israel' Foreign Minister accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of prioritizing support for Hamas over Turkey's economic interests.
'Israel' also announced its own trade restrictions on Turkish products, claiming that Turkey had unilaterally violated trade agreements.
Furthermore, reports have surfaced claiming that Turkey had proposed the return of ambassadors with 'Israel.' However, the Turkish president's office denied these allegations, stating that there were no such proposals made.
Last year, Turkey had recalled its ambassador from 'Tel Aviv' for consultations in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by 'Israel's' continuous attacks on civilians and refusal to heed calls for a cease-fire and unhindered flow of aid.
Turkey's decision to restrict exports to 'Israel' highlights its commitment to standing by and supporting Palestine and its people.
The country has vowed to continue urging the international community to ensure 'Israel's' compliance with its obligations under international law.
