Saudi authorities have reportedly allowed Shia Muslims to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) in Baqi cemetery in the holy city of Medina.

Unlike previous years, Shia Muslims have been allowed to hold Ashura and Muharram mourning ceremony in Baqi cemetery.

Videos circulated on social media showed a group of Saudi Shiites mourning near the Baqi while chanting slogans like 'Ya Hossain' and 'Labaik Ya Hossain.' 'The Muharram mourning took place near Baqi cemetery with the permission of the Saudis,' Mehr news agency quoted an informed source in the holy city as saying.
