The 13-year-old UN arms embargo on Iran that barred it from selling or purchasing weapons has expired as planned under the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

Now the country plans to sell its weapons in the international markets.

This comes in spite of desperate attempts by the United States to keep the embargo in place.

It is a sentiment also shared by the country’s top military officials.

They say the US sanctions pushed Iran toward self-sufficiency and the country can now produce and supply most of its defense needs.

Iran manufactures different types of missiles, heavy artillery, warships, submarines, combat vehicles, and fighter jets.

It is among the handful of countries that can manufacture most of its military needs.

Iran says unconventional arms, weapons of mass destruction, and a buying spree of conventional arms have no place in its defense doctrine.

It also says the world has defied Washington’s efforts to destroy the UN Security Council resolution and the Iran nuclear deal
