Massive wildfires have hit Lebanon this week in what Civil Defense has described as the worst wildfires to have hit the country in decades. The nationwide blazes tore through Lebanon’s mountains and residential areas in the Chouf and Metn regions before making their way across south Lebanon.

The fires came as a result of unusual high temperatures and strong winds, destroying the country’s forests and forcing many to flee their homes.

Lebanon’s army, fire departments, and Civil Defense teams worked to combat the fires before receiving international assistance from Cyprus, Greece, and Jordan.

The Lebanese Red Cross were also on the ground treating civilians for smoke inhalation, minor burns, and fainting.

Help centers were also set up to provide medication, water, and food to those in need.

Some local residents faced major losses to their homes and businesses as a result of the fires.

The massive wildfires burning Lebanon have left the country in utter devastation, reversing 20 years of reforestation efforts and leaving displaced families in panic.
