The Afghan government says battling the spread of Covid-19 is Kabul’s top priority.

Officials in Afghanistan have stressed that the government needs and welcomes international support to confront the disease.

That is why Tehran’s latest move to offer free medical services to Afghan refugees infected with the new coronavirus has been widely welcomed by Kabul. The move has also been received well by Afghans. Most Afghans believe Tehran’s move will help ease the pressure on Afghanistan’s healthcare system as Afghan refugees will no longer need to return to Afghanistan to seek treatment.  Some here also view Iran's attempt as further proof for Tehran's strong commitment to support its eastern neighbor despite the unilateral US sanctions it is facing.  Tehran’s move was also welcomed by the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and self-declared President Abdullah Abdullah during their separate phone calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Tehran and Kabul say they look forward to further cooperation in various fields.

The two neighbors have already agreed to work together to help address the political crisis in Afghanistan and advance the Afghan peace process
