On Wednesday night groups of protesters took to the streets in an attempt to block roads.
Samir Khatib is a prominent businessman who is considered a political newcomer and reportedly has good relations with all parties in Lebanon.
However, analysts believe the real obstacle is that there needs to be true consensus and the main blessing should especially be from caretaker PM Saad Hariri.
With the possible agreement on the nomination of Khatib, the businessman is expected to have some 89 votes and a guaranteed win.
The nomination of Samir Khatib for the post of prime minister has been met with some opposition.
However, many Lebanese are willing to give the new government an opportunity to prove itself, especially if it includes ministers with clean slate
