Thousands of women in Pakistani capital Islamabad took to the streets to protest over two and half months long curfew and communication blackout in Indian disputed Kashmir region.

The disputed territory has been under security clampdown since early August when New Delhi abolished its special status and annexed the region into Indian federation.

Since then there has been outrage on Pakistani streets which regularly are filled with protesters like these.  India briefly eased security clampdown last week in disputed Kashmir region.

However, the violent public reaction again compelled New Delhi to impose communication blackout.

Nonetheless, there have been hundreds of protests in defiance of curfew imposed by nearly 900,000 military and paramilitary troops in the disputed territory.

Protesters demanded the UN Security Council to implement its 11 resolutions to hold plebiscite letting the people to decide on whether they want to stay with India or join Pakistan.

After the crisis erupted in Indian controlled Kashmir region, the UN Security Council had an informal meeting but it did little to pressure New Delhi to lift the curfew and de-escalate the border tension between two nuclear armed neighbors.

The dispute over Kashmir region has been a source of three wars between Pakistan and India since 1947 when they gained independence from colonial Britain.

Armies of both nations, have been eyeball to eyeball to each other since the annexation of disputed territory
