Ramin Mazaheri Press TV, Paris The G7 summit of Western leaders plus Japan wrapped up in southwestern France, with little progress declared regarding global economic stagnation, the environment and the looming departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union. However, regarding Tehran-Washington tensions the French president said he hopes a long anticipated meeting between presidents of Iran and the US would take place in a matter of week.

Macron made the remarks in a joint press conference with his US counterpart, Donald Trump.

His remarks came on the same day that Rouhani said in an address to a ceremony that he would be ready to talk to anybody, because the main issue is the country’s national interests.

This as various Iranian officials, including the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and President Rouhani himself have said time and again that the country would never again sit at the negotiating table with the United States unless Washington returns to fulfilling its commitments under the JCPOA and lift unjust sanctions it has imposed on the Islamic Republic.

During the Monday press conference in Biarritz, Trump also said for his part that he wants to talk about Iran’s missile program; something which is categorically rejected by the Islamic Republic many times.

Experts believe such demands by Trump are hampering Iran-Europe ties.

Trump talks of negotiations with Tehran while Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has for many times reiterated that negotiation is a tactic used by Americans to complement their strategy of pressure
