The United Nations Security Council has officially adopted a resolution endorsing the Gaza ceasefire proposal presented by US President Joe Biden.

The resolution, drafted by the United States, garnered overwhelming support with 14 members voting in favor, while Russia chose to abstain.

The ceasefire plan, put forth by Biden on May 31, lays out a comprehensive three-phase strategy aimed at achieving a lasting halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip and securing the release of all captives held by Hamas.

In response to the resolution, Hamas, the Palestinian Resistance group, expressed its support and welcomed the ceasefire proposal.

A representative of Hamas stated, 'We welcome the Security Council's resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the withdrawal of troops, the return of displaced persons, and the reconstruction efforts.' Emphasizing their firm stance against any demographic changes in Gaza, Hamas highlighted the urgent need for essential aid to be provided to support the people in the besieged territory.

The United States had urged the Security Council to endorse the ceasefire deal and prisoner exchange agreement between 'Israel' and Hamas, outlined by  Biden.

The draft resolution called on all parties involved to fully implement the terms of the deal without delay or condition.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has insisted that their war on Gaza will continue until their goals are met.
