TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Cairo on Wednesday night to participate in a summit of the D8 Organization for Economic Cooperation. - Politics news - During his stay in Egypt, the Iranian president will also attend a special meeting concerning the humanitarian crisis and the challenges of reconstruction in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.Pezeshkian is also scheduled to hold meetings with a number of leaders of the D8 member states on the sidelines of the event.Speaking to reporters in Tehran before departing for Cairo, the Iranian president said such events are vital for fostering closer political, economic, cultural, and social ties among Islamic countries, as well as for exchanging experiences.Urging Muslim countries to support each other and resolve their differences through dialogue, he highlighted the summit's focus on youth capacity and strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises."During the BRICS summit in Kazan in Russia, I had a constructive meeting and beneficial discussions with the President of Egypt.

The more we deepen, strengthen, and operationalize our relations with Islamic countries, the more we can enhance our tolerance and effectively counter the plots against our nation and other Islamic countries," Pezeshkian stated, the president’s official website reported.He further pointed to various matters of the summit, noting, "In addition to the economic discussions at this summit, topics such as Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon will also be essential to our conversations.

We will explore how Islamic countries can achieve a common voice and collective diplomacy in response to the oppression, violence, and massacre against the people of these areas, as well as issues related to Syria."Regarding a meeting for talks on the regional developments alongside the main D8 summit, Pezeshkian said, "There will also be a session focusing on issues related to Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, where we will try to defend the rights of these people through active and coordinated diplomacy in response to the oppression and crimes committed by the US-backed Zionist regime, which has even blocked humanitarian aid."Egypt is hosting the 48th D8 commission meeting, the 21st council of ministers meeting, and the 11th D8 Summit.This year’s summit of the Developing Eight (D8) countries is held under the theme "Investing in Youth and Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy."
