Britain’s Liberal Democrat MP Paul Scriven blasted Huddersfield University’s refusal to halt its operations in Bahrain.“It is clear that the senior management at the University of Huddersfield are happy to turn a blind eye to human rights abuses in Bahrain in pursuit of their income stream,” Scriven said. The university is offering a master’s program to Bahraini police that covers investigative psychology, forensic psychology, computer science (cyber security), forensic science and criminology. The program has been repeatedly criticized by Scriven and rights campaigners due to Manama’s poor human rights record. In his latest remarks, the British MP said that he called on Huddersfield’s Student Union to pressure the university’s vice chancellor “over his refusal to revisit the worrying contract they have with the Bahrain government.”
